Rural Power advocates, including current and past Iowa Youth Tour participants, attended the sold-out event in Des Moines hosted by the Iowa Democratic Party featuring keynote speaker Alec Baldwin. Rural Power advocates filled two tables in the huge crowd estimated to be around 3,000. The event featured five-minute speeches by seven gubernatorial candidates along with various displays of their support in the crowd including noise makers and flashing lights. Baldwin both entertained the crowd with impersonations and called on them to work harder to elect Democrats in the upcoming 2018 elections. There was some speculation whether he might be a candidate himself. Rural Power advocates continue to participate in large and small events across the state to connect with policy makers from both political parties to create opportunities for issues important to member-owners to be heard.
